A conversation with Rick Ferro, lead Disney Wedding Photographer about changes in the Wedding Industry as he sees his own experiences as also owner of Rick Ferro Photography.
Ubookoo Q: You’ve been shooting professionally now for 30 plus years. How have brides needs changed from over the years?
Rick A: Brides are younger than ever before, I don’t mean necessarily in age, but in the younger generation need of new technology and how convenient it makes their life on a personal level. For instance, Brides want the ability to not only have quick access to their photos, that’s a given, but to share the entire experience from engagement to honeymoon with their friends and family as it develops, much like a good novel.
Ubookoo Q: That’s Interesting. Would you say brides are more demanding?
Rick A: Demanding? Let’s say they have higher expectations. What I mean by that is that today’s brides expect to get a hold of me at any time, and they expect me to be prompt with a reply. The mobile app I give them makes it easy for me to communicate with my bride and groom. The best part is they love their new bridal app and are happy to share my company!
Ubookoo Q: So you say “Brides love their App” Why?
Rick A: In the case of the Engagement App, it builds the story of how the couple met, their Bridal Registry and details about where and when the Wedding will be held. I can also include a short video of the proposal and Engagement photos. After friends and family download the app with a keyword, “Auntie” in another state can purchase directly from her mobile phone. The app also has my photography business information and ability to call, email or text me with a push of a button!
Ubookoo Q: You mentioned a keyword and short code. How do you use the keyword with your brides?
Rick A: It’s super easy. I assign a unique keyword to my bride. The keyword gives the Bride the ability to have their friends and family text a specific word or combination of words to a short number or code to download their app quickly. Much like radio stations use for contests.
Ubookoo Q: Sounds like it’s expensive. What are your costs?
Rick A: No, not at all! That’s the best part, I give the Bride & Groom their own Engagement/Wedding app free. They share it with friends and family and in doing so it builds a rather large lead list automatically, that I can later promote my Photography services too. As for what it costs me, it’s a minimal business expense – small monthly membership fee. Best of all, it gets the business over my competition. But not only the Wedding shoot, the Engagement shoot as well. I double my bookings.
Ubookoo Q: So Wedding Apps are important to your business?
Rick A: Not only are mobile apps important to my business, they are the easiest and best way to market my photography business. My gosh, my wedding party markets my company for me! It doesn’t get any better than that.
